Thomas Reynolds: The Gardener's Story

Online Exhibit Launch

June 23, 2021

5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

In this conversation, The Mount curatorial staff and local historian Cornelia Brooke Gilder discuss The Mount’s upcoming online exhibit on Thomas Reynolds, Edith Wharton’s head gardener and estate superintendent.

While Wharton considered her gardens to be among her finest achievements, she acknowledged herself that her work was only accomplished with Reynolds’ collaboration and expertise. Reynolds, an immigrant from England, spent his entire life in the gardening world and made a significant impact within his local gardening communities. The Mount is excited to share his story through new research and personal objects, never before seen in public, which were donated by Reynolds’ family.

This program will be livestreamed from The Mount’s Terrace.

This program is made possible by a grant from Mass Humanities, which provided funding through the Massachusetts Cultural Council (MCC).
