Poets Peter Filkins and Sidney Wade will read from their many poems about birds; and read some classic poems about birds by well-known and beloved poets, such as Elizabeth Bishop, Derek Walcott, Emily Dickinson, and Robinson Jeffers. Join us to enjoy the song of poetry and the song of birds in unison at the Terrace Cafe of The Mount.

Peter Filkins is the author of five books of poetry, most recently Water / Music, recently published by Johns Hopkins UP. He teaches writing and literature at Bard College at Simon’s Rock and translation at Bard College. His poems, essays, translations, and reviews have appeared in Poetry, The Yale Review, The American Scholar, The Paris Review, The New York Times Book Review, and numerous other publications.

Sidney Wade

Sidney Wade’s eighth collection of poems, Deep Gossip: New & Selected Poems, was published by Johns Hopkins University Press in April 2020. She taught workshops in Poetry and Translation at the University of Florida’s MFA@FLA program for 23 years, and she has served as President of AWP and Secretary/Treasurer of ALTA. Her translation with Efe Murad of selected poems of Melih Cevdet Anday won the Meral Divitci Prize, published by Talisman House in April 2017. She served as poetry editor for the literary journal Subtropics for many years; her poems and translations have appeared in a wide variety of journals, including Poetry, The New Yorker, Grand Street, The Paris Review, and many other literary publications.
