On July 21, Jon Suters (bass) will be joined by special guests Fred Haas (saxophone), Jason Ennis (guitar), and George Schuller (drums).
Jon Suters was born into a musical family in Long Island, NY and began studying violin at age 9, piano at 10, and double bass at 11. At age 12, Jon started to teach himself guitar and became so enamoured of the instrument and repertoire, that he started guitar lessons with classical guitarists Ed Flower and later Richard Provost. Jon continued his guitar studies as an adult with Ben Verdery, with whom he studied from 2003-2005. Jon began giving guitar and bass lessons while still in high school and has had a strong roster of private students ever since. He is a part-time music teacher at Berkshire Country Day School in Stockbridge, MA and has taught at Simon’s Rock, Pittsfield Music School, Austen Riggs Center, and Flying Cloud Institute. Jon’s work as a professional bassist and guitarist includes many and varied clubs, concerts, and events across the States and Canada. Major artists include: Charles Neville, Paul Halley, Dr. John, Eugene Friesen, Sonya Kitchell, Jimmy Buffett, Sara McLaughlin, and James Taylor. Jon continues to perform regularly throughout the region and beyond, including at The Edith Wharton Mount in Lenox, MA where he helped curate The Mount’s “Music After Hours” summer concert series.
Fred Hass has performed with the likes of Oscar Peterson, Ray Charles, Sheila Jordan and Clark Terry, who said, “You won‘t find a more capable jazz player and teacher than Fred Haas, and that‘s a fact!” Since 1996 Fred has taught jazz history, sax, jazz piano, music theory and jazz combos at Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH. Fred also taught for several years at Middlebury College and the Vermont Jazz Center. He has conducted workshops at many regional high schools, UNH and UVM. In 1996, Fred founded Interplay Jazz & Arts, a non-profit educational organization that provides opportunities for musicians of all ages to participate in a holistic, relaxed, supportive and fun learning environment with an experienced faculty that focuses on key aspects of the improvisational art of jazz. Fred has produced several CDs for his own JazzToons label, including Interplay, I Thought About You, Strike Up The Band and Friends.
The Mount is a Massachusetts Cultural Council UP designated organization welcoming participants of all disabilities. Please contact Nicole Williams at 413-551-5100 or by email, firstname.lastname@example.org, to discuss accommodations needed to participate fully in this event.
