Library Conversations

The Natural World

April 7, 2022

4:00 PM - 5:15 PM

All her life, Edith Wharton felt what she called a  “deep joy of communion with the earth,”  from her youthful country rambles to an obsessive love of gardening in later life.  In this session, led by The Mount’s Director of Interpretation Anne Schuyler, and Librarian Nynke Dorhout, we will survey works in Wharton’s library devoted to the natural world, from her many gardening books to works on astronomy and science. Wharton’s markings give a glimpse of her garden aesthetic as well as the practical concerns of a country gardener.

The Mount is a Massachusetts Cultural Council UP designated organization welcoming participants of all disabilities. Please contact The Mount at 413-551-5100 or by email, info@edithwharton.org, to discuss accommodations needed to participate fully in this event.
