Library Conversations

Wharton's Awakeners

February 3, 2022

4:00 PM - 5:30 PM

In this conversation, The Mount’s Director of Interpretation, Anne Schuyler, and Librarian, Nynke Dorhout, will lead a thought-provoking exploration of Wharton’s library, focusing on the authors that inspired her. From her childhood books on Greek mythology and Dante to well-worn volumes of Shakespeare and Emerson, these are the authors she called the “great awakeners.”  We will survey not only what the books tell us about her intellectual development,  but also how they continued to influence her throughout her career.
