100 Years of Innocence

Join authors and Wharton scholars Arielle Zibrak and Sarah Blackwood in conversation. Together they will lead a wide-ranging discussion covering such topics as the novel's relevance today, Wharton's view of social change and technological advances, and how to reckon with fictions that focus on wealthy, white characters.

Bios:

Arielle Zibrak is Assistant Professor of English, Director of English Honors, and affiliated Assistant Professor of Gender and Women's Studies at the University of Wyoming. She received her PhD in American Literature from Boston University. She is the editor of Edith Wharton's The Age of Innocence: New Centenary Essays (Bloomsbury, 2019) and the author of essays that have appeared in ESQ: A Journal of the American Renaissance, Criticism, Arizona Quarterly, The Edith Wharton Review, The LA Review of Books, Avidly, The Baffler, and The Toast.

She has also served as a reviewer for the National Endowment for the Humanities, an Executive Board member of The Edith Wharton Society, and an advisory board member of the Complete Works of Rebecca Harding Davis Online. She grew up in Newton, Massachusetts and currently lives in Laramie, Wyoming with her husband and her son.

Sarah Blackwood is the author of The Portrait's Subject: Inventing Inner Life in the Nineteenth-Century United States (UNC Press) and the Introduction to a new Penguin Classics edition of Edith Wharton's The Age of Innocence. Her criticism has appeared in The New Yorker, the New RepublicSlate, and Los Angeles Review of Books. She is Associate Professor of English at Pace University in NYC.
