The Drawing Room at The Mount
2 Plunkett St
Lenox, MA 01240

A discussion with The Mount’s 2016 Writers-in-Residence, Claire McMillan, Yvonne Puig, and Koren Zailckas, and moderated by Irene Goldman-Price.

“To write in the home which Edith Wharton built from her heart, where she wrote The House of Mirth, the book on which I based my novel, is quite literally a dream come true.” -2016 Edith Wharton Writer-in-Residence Yvonne Puig

The 2016 Edith Wharton Writers-in-Residence – Claire McMillan, author of Gilded Age; Yvonne Puig, author of the upcoming A Wife of Noble Character; and Koren Zailckas, author of Smashed: Story of a Drunken Girlhood – will discuss their books, their careers, and their experiences writing in the house where Edith Wharton penned many of her most popular works. They will also touch on how Edith Wharton’s literary legacy has shaped and inspired their own works, and how she continues to influence female writers in the 21st century.

This panel discussion will be moderated by Wharton scholar Irene Goldman-Price and will include a question and answer session. Authors will be available to sign books after the program.

Claire McMillan is a novelist and essayist, most recently of Gilded Age, which was published by Simon and Schuster in 2012. She practiced law in San Francisco for six years before moving to Cleveland in 2003 with her husband, Sandy, and their two children.

Koren Zailckas is a bestselling author of memoir and fiction. Her work Smashed spent twenty weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and was hailed as “one of the best accounts of addiction,…the college experience…and what it means to be an average teenage girl in America.”

She is the editor of My Dear Governess: The Letters of Edith Wharton to Anna Bahlmann (Yale UP 2012) and is currently preparing an edition of Wharton’s poetry as part of the Complete Works of Edith Wharton for Oxford University Press.  She serves on the editorial board of the Edith Wharton Review and as a trustee at The Mount, Edith Wharton’s Home in Lenox, MA.
